There's not going to be two options here, it's just 'Mac mini'. The M1 Mac mini will be discontinued and the M1X Mac mini will take its place. It's the second detail that is intriguing.
Moving up to the M1X system on chip is a natural choice, but given the previous antipathy to keeping the mini on top of the specifications tree, a surprising choice as well. The geekerati will see the uprated M1X-powered Mac mini in the next few months my money would be on a launch alongside the M1X-powered 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops, in a cute echo of the M1 launch last year.
